RV Renovation and Life Update!
Hello all! I am finally back for a quick, all over the place, photo update on the status of things around here. It has almost been two weeks since we got rid of most of our stuff and said good-bye to our home of 3.5 years to set out on our full-time RV journey.
Thankfully, this trip from Dallas to south Texas wasn’t nearly as eventful as the last one.
Two days after we arrived at my parents’ house, I celebrated my 27th birthday.
It was a nice relaxing day, spent with family, for the first time in years. I’m only 10 days into it, but I can say 27 is looking to be my happiest year so far. You can see the awesome birthday nesting bowls, which are perfect for RV living! Not only are they space-saving, but pretty to look at too!
After a day of relaxing, we picked up right where we left off on our RV remodel.
First up: The Bathroom
This was the only area we hadn’t really done much with. I started out by getting rid of the gold shower.
After a little demo, painting, and prepping the floor, the bathroom is starting to match the rest of the “house”.
In addition to the bathroom work, we have been doing a lot of furniture assembly and arranging.
I have a fun DIY project planned for our new media stand, which I’ll hopefully get to complete in the next month or so.
In addition to all of the busyness, we’ve managed to get in some family time and enjoy the beautiful sunsets south Texas has to offer.
I realized while walking around and snapping photos, that we hadn’t showed Lucille’s rear. I love all of the windows!
Amidst the ongoing chaos, we have a couple of spaces that are shaping up and close to being finished. We have had so much encouragement and nice comments on the sneak peeks we’ve posted on Instagram and Facebook, so I wanted to share a couple of the latest photos. We’ll be giving a full rundown of each space and how we got there, but for now, I’ll leave you with these teasers. 🙂
The kitchen is my absolute favorite part of the remodel so far. In case you forgot how it looked before, you can check it out here. I can’t wait to actually put the stove to use and cook our first meal!
Adding curtains to the living room has really made it feel complete. We have all of our furniture assembled and the curtains are in the midst of being hemmed and trimmed! I ordered new floor registers today to match and finally fill in those holes in the floor.
Now that we’re winding down on packing/moving/more renovation, I’ll finally have a chance to finish all of those unfinished blog posts I’ve started. 😉 We only have a little over a week before we’re moved into Lucille and on the road headed to our first destination. Woohoo!

Looking good! 🙂
You have done an AMAZING job! And happy birthday! I was 9/16! 🙂
Thank you and Happy Belated birthday to you! 🙂
Love the white cabinets. So clean and fresh.
Thanks Phyllis!
Great job so far! I like that you used the subway tiles as your kitchen backsplash…different from others. I just love the backsplash period! It’s better than all the wallpaper everywhere. Keep posting pics, please!
Thank you Deanna! The backsplash is my favorite part! We were just going to do smart tiles, but I had that exact image in my head and couldn’t shake it. Will be doing a full run down soon! 🙂
Did you use regular residential subway tile?
Happy belated birthday! I so want to do this to our 5th wheel and make it more personal. But all that work while living in the RV is holding me back. Two of us and three dogs to live around a reno. You are inspiring me despite my fears. Looking forward to seeing more!
As someone who has never really DIYed anything before I can say that with a little bit of internet and sweat you can make almost anything happen. 🙂 I am thankful we were able to do it before moving in though. Good luck, would love to see pics when you get started!
Looks great buddy! Miss your faces! Muaw!
Muahh!!
Oh man. That before bathroom was hideous. I am so thankful that ours was white and we didn’t have that gold/bronze whatever it was stuff to cover up. Y’alls efforts are looking outstanding. So happy for y’all. Just wait for kids though. Your 5th wheel will be themed “Frozen” whether you like it or not. HAHAHAHAH!!!
It really was! I think I’ve blocked out the before, I have to go back to the photos to remind myself lol!
HAHA, Frozen!! Good thing the dogs aren’t into Disney movies! 🙂
Hi! I work with Go RVing Canada and I’d love to showcase your remodel photos on our social channels – giving you full credit – to show our fans that it is possible to make any RV look amazing. Are you ok if we showcase your blog post? Thank you!
Wow!! What an amazing job!! I have never been in a 5th wheel and I am in shock!! So lovely!!!
What kind of flooring did you use? Is it laminate or ??
And the sofa – mind telling me where you got it?
Again – you guys did an amazing job!!
Thank you Lorrie! We used Allure Plank Vinyl flooring from Home Depot! http://www.homedepot.com/p/TrafficMASTER-Allure-Ultra-7-5-in-x-47-6-in-Aspen-Oak-Black-Resilient-Vinyl-Plank-Flooring-20-sq-ft-case-546128-0/202819075
We got the sofa from Ikea!

Thank you so much for following along with us! 🙂
We were wanting to use the Allure planks as well. The manufacturer didn’t recommend in cold temperatures. We live in Northern Michigan, we definitely deal with cold temps. I was wondering where you were located and if you had any issues since laying the flooring?
Your renovation looks fantastic. I have a quick question about your curtains. How did you hang the curtain rods?
Thank you Amy! We just hung them like you would with curtains in a normal house! Just followed the directions on the packaging. We didn’t even use the molly anchors that came with them, but if they start to look like they are coming loose we’ll add those down the road. So far so good!
I don’t believe that I have ever had 15 tabs open at the same time on my laptop…lol. I’m researching RV remodel projects that others have taken on to improve their environment and make the drab RV look more like home. I am planning on removing my carpet and replace it with flooring similar to yours. The walls and cabinets are also going to be painted and remodeled…yours look great!! Thank you for your great blog…I wish you the very best on your adventures, perhaps I will see you out on the road one day.
Haha you sound like me when we were first talking about full-timing! Thank you for the lovely compliments! Let us know if we’re ever in your area! 🙂
Wow your new home looks amazing!! Would love to know how you handled the slide portion of the floor remodel! My boyfriend and I are nurses traveling in our “new” travel trailer, and we have the same flooring picked out that you and your hubs used! LOVE IT! The slide portion is super daunting though!
Thank you Amanda! We’re working on a flooring post and it will be more in depth, but we used a rubber wall base! The slides actually ended up being way less intimidating that we originally thought they might be. For now, if you go to our Facebook page and leave a comment I can post a photo that shows how we did the transition. 🙂
Love everything you did & it must be a joy to travel in! I saw your instagram pics too – what did you do to change the kitchen counters?
We love what you have done to your RV. We are trying to do something similar on our RV that has a similar layout. How did you remove the carpet in the living room underneath the slide out? We want to take up the carpet and do the same type of flooring that you have done. Can you give us more detail on how you did that removal and how you put down the new floor especially with a slide coming over it?
Thanks
Cretia
Love the look of the 5 th wheeler
So awesome- I hope we get the guts to do this!
BEAUTIFUL RENO,,,, LOVE THE KITCHEN!!! WE BOUGHT A 27 FOOT 1994 SAFARI TREK MOTORHOME …RIPPED OFF THE WALLPAPER , REPLACED A FEW ROTTEN WALLS THEN WE PUT DOWN NEW FLOORING, TOOK OUT THE EXIST TABLE AND CHAIRS THEN REPLACED IT WITH A CONSOLE TABLE AND A BENCH AS ONLY THE 2 OF US AND THE DOGS AS WE ONLY USE IT FOR WEEKEND TRIPS , NO SLIDE WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN GREAT, BUT WE LOVE ‘OL JOE ” AS WE CALL HIM… LOOKING FORWARD TO HEARING ABOUT YOUR LIFE ON THE ROAD AND SEEING ALL THE RENO PICTURES! WHAT AN AWESONE JOB YOU BOTH DID… WHAT A TRANSFORMATION!

This Looks amazing and you should feel like a designer after this project. You upgraded space, brought it up to date, love the white cabinets……. I too hate all that fake wood stuff and I painted mine white too. Thanks for sharing.
I just wish 5 wheels were available over here in Europe. Great refurb project for Tiny living!
Beautfil!
This is beautiful!! I love the globe! Did you have to get specific RV furniture or did anything do?
This looks fantastic! Is your kitchen on a slide out? If so did you have to take everything out to redo the flooring? My husband and I are remodeling our 5th wheel and trying to figure out how to tackle replacing the flooring. 🙂 Thanks.
Never mind! The rest of the comments just uploaded and I see that someone else had a similar question.! 🙂 I will look for your flooring post. 🙂
